Artist Bio

Shannon Lynn is a visual artist born and raised on the East Coast of Canada.  She recently relocated to Fredericton, New Brunswick, where she currently works from her studio at home.  She previously lived for seven years in Moncton, New Brunswick, where she worked as Director of Marketing and interim Visual Arts Instructor at McKenzie College, and as an independent commission artist.  Her work includes a variety of murals throughout the Moncton area, paintings that are featured in a number of restaurants and office buildings in the city, and numerous privately commissioned works throughout the country.

Shannon enjoys accepting art commissions, but she makes time to develop her own body of work, which is mainly figurative and incorporates elements of traditional realism with exaggerated shapes and colours.  Her work has appeared in solo and group exhibitions throughout the maritimes and she continues to create everyday.

Growing up in rural Nova Scotia, Shannon started oil painting at the age of 12. Within months she was producing one-of-a-kind pieces that generated attention within her community.  After graduating from Saint Mary’s University with a Commerce Degree, she attended McKenzie College studying and training in Visual Arts.  She has since begun to explore new mediums and subject matters, and she continues to experiment with different styles researching fresh themes and techniques, and incorporating original ideas into her artistic practice.

Artist Statement

My artwork is a reflection of the way I experience the world around me.  It is very much a product of experiences I have had and emotions I have felt, relative to both who I am today and struggles I have had in my past.  I also draw inspiration from the dreamy Atlantic Canadian landscapes, the places I discover, and the people and things that mean the most to me.  I tend to explore themes like loneliness and identity as they relate to memory and feelings of nostalgia.  Most recently I started working on a series where I am reimagining old family photos and collecting fragments of the past.

Although my lifelong passion has been painting, I love experimenting with different art mediums and challenging myself to try new things.  I enjoy commission work, creating accessible one-of-a-kind pieces for people who want to have their own special moments frozen in time.
